
Leona Louise Lewis (born 3 April 1985) is a British performer, songwriter also known as actress, and activist. Her birthplace and childhood was in the London Borough of Islington and went to the Croydon's BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology. Lewis was a star on the national stage when she won The Third X Factor's third show in the year 2006. The singer also signed an PS1 Million recording contract from Syco Music. The winning single, which was a cover the song of Kelly Clarkson "A Moment like This" recorded 50,000 downloads in 30 minutes and peaked at the top spot for 4 weeks. Clive Davis's label J Records, signed Lewis to a deal for five albums in February 2007. Lewis's successes continued when she released her debut album, Spirit (2007). It was certified platinum in the UK and became the fourth most-sold album in the 2000s. According to the Official Charts Company, Spirit is the top-selling debut album released by female singers during the 21st century. The top UK single, Bleeding Love, remained at No. #1 for seven weeks before becoming the most popular single in 2007, According to the Official Charts company. It was also the most-sold single in the US that year. Lewis won the Billboard Best New Artist Award the following year. Echo was her sophomore studio album. She also wrote the track "I I See You" for Avatar. Lewis also made her debut with "Collide" in 2011as as a collaborative effort along with Swedish DJ Avicii. Also, she released Hurt, the EP, her debut extended play. The release of her third studio album, Glassheart (2012), marked a new creative direction for Lewis who draws the inspiration of dubstep and electronic music. She started recording tracks to her first Christmas album during her Glassheart Tour, which took place in mid 2013. The Christmas album, with Love was released late in 2013. The album's opening track, One More Sleep, peaked at number 3 in the UK. Through this chart entry, Lewis was the very first British female solo artist to make it into the top 5 with eight singles, surpassing Olivia Newton-John's record of seven.
